Music Therapy sessions

Music Therapy sessions in Cambridge, guitar and other instrumentsMusic Therapy sessions can take place in schools, nurseries, child development centres or at home. The Owl Centre offers 1:1 sessions with a child, or sessions with the child and family/carer. Each session lasts for 40 minutes, including time to get instruments ready at the beginning of the session, and to feedback at the end of the session.

Sessions can include a mix of familiar songs and activities and free improvisation. Each session is tailored to the needs of the individual child, using a positive interaction approach. Children do not need to be able to play an instrument to come to music therapy.

Music Therapy Assessment Sessions

Music Therapy assessments take place over 3 sessions. The music therapist will be concentrating on assessing skills such as turn taking, eye contact, anticipation, listening and concentration, verbal, non verbal or preverbal skills, motor skills, and awareness of self and others. The music therapist will provide a report following the assessment, which includes observations made and suggested aims for further Music Therapy sessions.
