The Clinical Psychologists at The Owl Centre in Essex combine expertise and experience with a friendly and sympathetic approach to the children and parents they see. They also have links with the NHS to ensure a seamless continuity for clients who have received NHS assessments or therapy.

Dr Alison Ram BSc, DClinPsy, HCPC registered

Dr Alison Ram is a Clinical Psychologist registered with the Health & Care Professional Council (HCPC). In 2015, she completed her doctorate in Clinical Psychology at Royal Holloway, University College London. During training, she undertook research looking into childhood obesity, the associated family processes and parental experience. She has previously worked in several services including IAPT, CAMHS specialist services (schools and outreach for hard to reach families), and Women's Health Psychology Service

Since qualifying, Alison has worked in Acute Paediatrics, offering assessment and treatment to children and adolescents diagnosed with a range of long term medical conditions such as Type 1 diabetes, epilepsy, and chronic fatigue syndrome. Alison is experienced in working with complex presentations and a high level of distress. She is competent in the assessment and treatment of specific conditions including anxiety (generalised anxiety, OCD, phobias), depression and low self-esteem. Alison is skilled and experienced in delivering a range of psychological therapies including CBT, mindfulness, ACT and narrative therapy. She is able to deliver treatment individually, to groups and multiple family members. Alison is skilled in assessing autism and is highly experienced in the administration of standardised measures such as the ADOS-2. 

Prior to qualification, Alison gained valuable experience working in a range of mental health settings. These include work in medium secure psychiatric hospitals; autism specific family work; and research at The Institute of Psychiatry, looking into patient engagement with groups in medium secure psychiatric hospitals. Alison has valuable skills in the assessment and management of risk. She is able to work with multiple agencies including social services, schools and GPs.
