Rupa Balaguru, MA (Hons), RDMP

Rupa qualified as a Dance Movement Psychotherapist from the University of Derby and is registered with the Association for Dance Movement Psychotherapy UK.

As a Dance Movement Psychotherapist, Rupa works from an integrative psychotherapeutic approach, drawing from humanistic, transpersonal and broad psychodynamic approaches, with a focus on the relational aspect of the client-therapist interaction. Along with the use of movement, she uses art, music, props and other creative approaches and verbal therapy to create a safe space for the client to work towards expanding ways of self-expression, connection with self/others, creative problem-solving and personal development/growth.

Prior to her training as a Dance Movement Psychotherapist, Rupa worked for more than 10 years as a Mental Health Occupational Therapist in Singapore. Having worked and lived in its rich and diverse multi-cultural environment, Rupa is acutely aware of how culture plays a crucial role in shaping us and the importance of acknowledging the eminence of culture for optimal therapeutic outcome.

Rupa has extensive experience of working with adults with mental health needs in both the hospital and community settings. She is currently working with the elderly with dementia in a day care setting providing regular DMP sessions.

Rupa is based in North London. She is able to provide one-to-one and group Dance Movement Psychotherapy intervention to adult/elderly mental health services and can provide outreach appointments. She will consider all parts of London for outreach appointments.
