•Melanie Bain PGDip, MBACP.
Melanie trained at the Kinharvie Institute, Caledonian University of Glasgow and graduated in humanistic counselling and supervision in 2003. She is a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy.
For ten years, Melanie has worked with children and young people from aged 5 to 18 years as well as their parents and families, in various settings, supporting them to overcome social, relationship, personal and domestic difficulties.
Melanie can provide support to children and young people who are at risk of and/or affected by school absenteeism, bullying, relationship breakdown, low self-esteem, self-harm, anger, parental/family separation/divorce, and infant/child-to-parent bonding.
A session can vary according to the child’s/family’s needs and personality. Melanie would focus initially on assessing the needs and preferences of the client and then build a plan for future sessions accordingly. Ultimately, each session would aim to encourage open conversation and expression of any feelings and concerns and provide an environment to build positive attitudes, increase self-esteem and improve relationships. During any support work, Melanie will be prioritising the safeguarding of all children in all situations.
Melanie works in a holistic way, using her counselling skills in a client-centred way to ensure an all-round support of the client. She has a gentle, caring nature, which enables others to feel at ease, accepted and comfortable. She is outgoing but also sensitive to the needs and concerns of others as well as seeing and supporting individuals toward positive change.
Melanie uses Theraplay® Informed Practice which encourages bonding between infant/child/young person and their parent/carer. She is available for in-house sessions and for outreach visits in many parts of Oxfordshire.
