Next 2 day MAKATON (Levels 1 and 2) Training Course in Oxford: 2nd & 3rd April. Fee: £120 per person (incl. manuals). Contact us if you wish to attend.
We do a detailed Psychiatric Assessment.  This will explore possible diagnoses such as ADHD, ASD, Depression, Anxiety, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, PTSD, Gender Identity Disorder, Learning Disability, and Borderline Personality Disorder.
Pre-assessment, we will ask for any previous reports, clinic letters from Paediatrics and CAMHS, and (often) information from school.  We will ask the child and parents to fill in relevant questionnaires.
During assessment, we will explore the developmental pathway, contributing factors, and family constellation.  This is likely to last at least 90 minutes.  The fee includes a thorough report.  Further assessment(s) by other professionals may be recommended.
Treatment recommendations may include: liaison with school, including if necessary a school meeting; family therapy; or medication: we can offer all of these.  Individual therapy would require referral to another professional.
Number of sessions
In rare cases, a second appointment might be required to complete an assessment.  The frequency and total number of sessions can vary tremendously.  For instance: Family Therapy sessions might be 3-6 weekly for 6 months; medication reviews might be at three weeks, seven weeks, three months, and then every 3 to 6 months. Usually one or two school meetings are enough to achieve satisfactory cooperation between family and school; they are usually combined with other interventions.
Fees are £370 for an initial assessment, and £150 per hour for follow-ups - both including their documentation.  Travelling (for instance, for school meetings or home visits) is charged at 50p per mile (with no charge for the time spent travelling).  Prescriptions are £20 each, with no extra for Special or Recorded Delivery.  For Dr Quentin Spender, these details and others, such as venue, are on:
