Kate was a professional musician before retraining as a Music Therapist, graduating with MA in Music Therapy from Roehampton University in 2017. Alongside working for The Owl Therapy Centre, she is employed as Music Therapist and Therapy and Wellbeing Lead at a Pupil Referral Unit and SEMH school.
Kate is experienced working in SEN and mainstream settings, with both adults and children with complex needs, autism spectrum condition, social emotional and mental health, and learning disabilities, including PMLD. As a Music Therapist Kate offers a calm, inclusive and safe environment in sessions, nurturing positive relationships; encouraging non-directive play, flexible and imaginative to inspire creativity, interaction, expression and confidence. Her approach is client-centered, flexible and reflexive to a person’s individual needs.
Music therapy offers a chance to explore and express yourself through music and can be particularly useful if a person finds expressing themselves through words difficult. In sessions Kate uses a mixture of structured and client-led, creative and expressive interactive activities. Session may include improvisation, singing, listening to music, talking, play, story work and work with images, helping to support a person to reach their potential in many aspects of emotional, cognitive and physical development and wellbeing.
Kate works with individuals and groups, depending on individual needs.
Kate is registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), a member of the British Association for Music Therapy (BAMT) and holds a portable Enhanced DBS.
