  • November 2018 to date – Specialist Speech and Language Therapist – Beech Lodge School, Maidenhead
  • 121 work with children with a focus on SEMH difficulties (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) as well as a consultancy role supporting teaching staff. Many of the children in the school are adopted and have attachment difficulties as well as other diagnoses including ASD, ADHD etc. This is a school for children that don’t ‘fit’ in mainstream schools and its ethos is based around the PACE principles of Playfulness, Acceptance, Curiosity and Empathy.
  • January 2018 to date – Specialist Speech and Language Therapist - Nyland Primary School, Swindon
  • Clinical consultancy for a Special School and Pupil Referral Unit for children with SEMH difficulties (Social, Emotional and Mental Health). Work includes advising on: screening all pupils’ communication to establish high, medium and low priority children. Cross checking this with EHCP requirements and agreeing SaLT targets for each child. Ensuring synergy with the school’s EQ curriculum and developing a Speech and Language Policy for the school. Also Training Teachers and Teaching Assistants to implement social communication programmes and advising school on suitable therapy resources. Advising on a whole school approach to improving social communication.

  • Working in a mainstream primary working 121 and with groups, treating a range of difficulties including: stammer, verbal dyspraxia, phonological delay, language delay, pragmatic difficulties and cleft palate speech.
  • September 2015 – December 2016: Specialist Speech Language Therapist, Unicorn School, Abingdon, Oxon
  • 16 months working with children aged 5-13, with a diagnosis of dyslexia, in a private Special School. Many children here had attended and been excluded from mainstream schools due to a range of complex difficulties including poor social skills, challenging behaviours and specific learning difficulties. Work included speech and language work, metalinguistics, pragmatics and social skills. Worked 121 as well as supporting individual students in the classroom environment.
  • August 2014 to August 2015: Specialist Speech and Language Therapist, Swalcliffe Park School, Nr Banbury
  • 12 months working as a Specialist Speech and Language Therapist in a private residential school for boys aged 11-18 who are on the ASD spectrum. This Special School employs three therapists who work very closely with teaching staff to deliver a Social Thinking curriculum to the boys and to ensure a whole school approach to language differentiation. Work includes running groups, 1:2:1 language and pragmatics work and liaison with teaching and care staff to try to ensure an enriching linguistic environment that supports the needs of these autistic boys.

  • 7 years experience: assessing (both formally and informally), diagnosing, and treating children with a very wide range of communication difficulties including: articulation difficulties, verbal dyspraxia, phonological impairment, language delay and language disorder, specific language impairment, ASD, Asperger’s, Downs Syndrome, stammer, cleft palate and global developmental delay. Coordinating several weeklong Summer Social Skills courses for the NHS over the last three years. Managing student SALT placements. Supporting 3 weeklong intensive dysfluency courses. Interesting / fun facts

  • Worked for 5 years in the Railway Industry after graduating in 1991 and work included driving an underground train and Supervising an Underground station.
  • Followed by 10 years in Public Relations before a career change to Speech and Language Therapy in 2005.
  • Speak French, love horses, cooking and entertaining friends and family.
