CV

  • I qualified as a Speech and Language Therapist from Birmingham City University in 2018.
  • I work in a Specialist College for 16-25 year olds as a Speech and Language Therapist. The students have complex needs.
  • I like working with adolescents and young adults, as well as Primary aged children. Being a part of the Autism Projects allows me the opportunity to work with adults and their families beyond the College environment.
  • I believe in a holistic and collaborative approach to therapy, where the child or young person is supported to communicate in as many environments as they want.
  • My initial aim is to support functional communication across a range of settings with a range of people,
  • A person-centred approach is key to my work.
  • During my placements, I liked learning about Speech Therapy from 'the other side' in schools. My experience as a teacher supports the collaborative work I do as a Therapist.
  • I worked as a qualified Primary School Teacher for 18 years in several Primary schools. I started as a Class Teacher and eventually got my dream job at the time: SENDCo alongside being a Class Teacher!

Interesting / fun facts

  • I enjoy swimming and have recently counted the miles to complete a sponsored Channel Swim.
  • I love singing, sing in a music group for fun and play the 'Cello.
  • I relax with crafts and like learning new skills.
  • I volunteer as a Civilian Instructor in the RAF Air Cadets (RAFAC) where I teach First Aid, take a Medic and Welfare role on camps and get involved in whatever activities the Cadets are doing.
  • In my time off, I like to explore the local area, especially historical buildings and parks.
