Scope
A cognitive assessment is carried out by a qualified psychologist and may take the format as described below. It has the purpose of
- identifying learning difficulties
- identifying and diagnosing learning disabilities/disorders (this does not include ASD and ADHD)
- evaluating cognitive processing strengths and weaknesses
- assessing for giftedness
- assessing the impact of brain injuries.
Format
The assessment involves gathering information from school staff and a discussion with parents about the difficulties the child encounters. The Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children®– Fifth UK Edition (WISC®–VUK) is then administered. This is the latest version of the most proven and trusted cognitive ability measure.
Remote assessments take place via a video conference call from your home. In most cases, this will be on a one-to-one basis between the assessee and one of our psychologists. When assessing children remotely, depending on their age and the presenting concerns, we may ask a family member to sit in.
The remote assessment process is identical to that of a face-to-face assessment but we select some assessment tests that are better suited to telepractice.
