Scope
No dance skill is required to undertake dance / movement psychotherapy. The discipline provides a means for patients to investigate their own sense of self through exploring the tensions, breath, and stories that may be held in the body. It provides a strong focus on play and creative expression, and can be used to help with problems including:
- Adoption / Foster Care.
- Anxiety.
- Depression.
- Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).
- Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
- Behavioural difficulties.
- Low self-esteem or confidence.
- Neglect.
- Abuse.
- Grief.
Format
Unless the patient has already been assessed by a suitable therapist, and you are able to share with us a set of current targets or an assessment report written within the last 6 months, an initial assessment is the first step. The format taken will vary from therapist to therapist. When you have been put in touch, please ask your therapist for information if required.
Number of sessions
The number of therapy sessions required (and the frequency and length of each session) would be entirely dependent on the patient’s needs and age. Your therapist will be able to give you an approximate indication after the assessment stage has completed.
